You Can Never Lose

But it can be daunting, right? Standing at the bottom of whatever mountain you want to climb, looking up and being uncertain.

Why do you read these newsletters? You and (nearly) 400 other people?

I know that the reason is that you are in a phase of your life or your work where you want to improve your circumstances.

That might be a new project, a new approach, a new life goal, or something else. But it is something big, right?

The thing that keeps you reading my messages, listening to the Steven Bartlett podcasts and dreaming your lunchbreak away.

I get it. Because my mind works the same way. Always curious about how things can be better and the role you can play in that, either for yourself or for others.

But it can be daunting, right? Standing at the bottom of whatever mountain you want to climb, looking up and being uncertain.

You ask yourself if you have what it takes and you talk yourself out of it again and again. Why? Because you are worried you will lose.

Lose face, lose pride, lose comfort, lose status, lose friends or something else.

But here's a different way of thinking about that. Bring to mind a time when you messed up badly, when you had egg on your face or you fell over in front of everyone.

I bet that, in hindsight that moment taught you something crucial. I bet that you found some grit, or learned a lesson, or swore never to let that happen again. And you didn't.

You see, every failure teaches skills that stack for future success.

And so, you never lose. You win. Or you learn.
